About Your Role
As our Project Designer (Telecom & GIS Specialist), you'll be assigned to projects in our telecommunications design group to design fibre optic and wireless networks. You will have a focus on GIS technologies and bring your enthusiasm and software skills to figure out the best ways to leverage these technologies to design networks. You will learn from our in house Design/Engineering mentors, and public/client/internal standards how the internet is delivered. You’ll also learn about the various construction (digging trenches or hanging wires on poles), materials (cables, UG vaults/structures, network components), and network architecture (link loss calcs, electronics, network layout/layers).
What You'll Do
- Design, audit, and maintain fibre optic, copper, and wireless networks (Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, Structural elements);
- Operate GIS & CAD technology to create packages for the field and analyze data;
- Maintains data integrity and connectivity in the Enterprise GIS by inputting, processing, manipulating, and presenting new and revising existing data in accordance with standards, procedures and system rules;
- Participates in research and development projects including testing activities.
What You'll Need to Get the Job Done
- A certificate, degree, or other accredited training in the field of GIS science, Engineering, or CAD technologies;
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS tools (such as ESRI products), and general office productivity tools (Microsoft office, google sheets, Gmail, etc.);
- Some Experience in telecom physical layer plant design domains such as: civil, cable, and pole line design for fibre networks (GPON/FTTP), copper, coax cable, HFC, radio frequency or small cell-designs, ULA/other permitting, Inside or site specific internal structured wiring;
- Desire to learn & strong technical curiosity.
